animals

Today we’re going to focus on Animals. We’ve actually covered quite a few Animal names in Hindi as we’ve been going through, so you should hopefully recognise some of these! But of course there are many new ones. After each word there is either an (M) if the Hindi noun is Masculine or an (F) if it’s Feminine! Are you ready to get going then?
Firstly, the Hindi word for Animal is प्राणी praanee (M). You may also hear the word जानवर jaanvar (M), it means Animal too!
उल्लू ulloo - Owl (M)
ऊँट oont - Camel (M)
कछुआ kachuaa - Turtle (M)
कुत्ता kuttaa - Dog (M)
गाय gaay - Cow (F)
चिड़िया ciriyaa - Bird (F)
चूहा coohaa - Rat (M)
बकरी bakree - Goat (F)
बदक badak - Duck (F)
बन्दर bandar - Monkey (M)
बाघ baagh - Tiger
बिल्ली billee - Cat (F)
भालू bhaaloo - Bear (M)
भेड़ bher - Sheep (F)
भेड़िया bheriyaa - Wolf (M)
मछली machlee - Fish (F)
मुर्गी murgee - Chicken (F)
मेंढक mendhak - Frog (M)
साँप saanp - Snake (M)
हाथी haathee - Elephant (M)
Phew! That’s it for today! How was that? Do you think you can remember all of those? Try and write yourself flashcards if you’re struggling to remember them, just cut out a piece of card and write the Hindi word on one side of the card and the English on the other side. Then keep testing yourself; show yourself the English word - can you remember the Hindi word? If not then check! Show yourself the Hindi word too, can you remember the English? Keep going until you can get it right every time!
Is there another Animal you’d like to know the Hindi word for? If so then just leave a comment below and I’ll help you as soon as possible! Do you want me to cover the vocab for another topic in lessons? Let me know in a comment and I’ll do my best!
